PVVFD members,
The Coopertown Barrel Festival is just around the corner and the PVVFD will again be participating.
A couple of years ago, our Officers were encouraged to plan and host some community events at our out stations or to
engage in community events that we could not only interact with the public but also use as a fundraiser. This will be the
Station 5 event for 2023. I think we have events for Station 1 and Station 7 already on the books, with hopes of Station 2
and 6 plans coming soon.
I wanted to disclose all the information I have, as we are only a week and a half away. Here's what I know:
- The PVVFD will be assisting with the 5K run. For many years we have provided two (2) members in a Squad apparatus to
help block intersections and protect runners as they are along the route. I will need 2 PVVFD that are willing to get an early
start and can use Squad 4 to assist. If you are interested in filling this role, please let me know.
- The PVVFD will be setting up our "Firefighting Foods" booth. This will involve us cooking our well known smoked bologna
(a Bryan Leech treat) and our Hot Chicken (varying temperatures). We usually serve these with fries and white bread. We
have added a drink and sold these items as a combo in years past. I'm asking Ms. Amy to make some of her cupcakes to
sell as well. I'll need some help early next week to get out our fryers, inventory our serving trays, napkins, utensils, etc.,
make sure things are clean and working, etc. On the day of the event, we need help with tent and equipment set up,
assistance with food prep, cashiers, supply runners, etc.
- Our food tent will also serve as a walk up first aid location for the event. We will have some basic medical equipment with us
so we can help where we can. I think the Barrel Festival staff was going to have a RCEMS unit on site, but the Elementary
School campus is a large area to cover, so it's just another way we can serve.
I have included the vendor packet I was sent just so you can check out all the particulars. It gives an event map, tells you
some of the vendors that will be in attendance, etc. Like I said, I want you all to be informed and see what's going to be in
our community the first weekend of June.
Leech, Rick, and myself are going to spend our time at the food tent, but as you can see, there are several places you can
plug in. The festival ends at 1300 hours (1pm), so we should be torn down and put up before supper, which is another plus.
Let me know ASAP if you are interested. Thank you.
